Who We Are

About the Lab

Our Founding

The Yale Carbon Containment Lab (CC Lab) launched in January 2020 as part of the Yale School of the Environment (YSE). YSE is an ideal organizational home for the CC Lab, with its focus on creating the knowledge and leadership for a more sustainable future. The Lab was founded by Dean Takahashi, who previously spent over 33 years with the Yale Investments Office managing Yale's Endowment. Read more about the CC Lab's founding in a 2020 article profiling the Lab's establishment in Bloomberg.

Recognizing the need for carbon removal if we are to limit the Earth’s warming, the CC Lab seeks to develop, implement, and teach safe and novel methods of removing and containing atmospheric carbon at scale and at low cost. To achieve implementation and adoption, the Lab combines scientific expertise with economic and business insight to design practicable business plans and pull together talented management and environmentally concerned funding.

Since our founding, we have implemented a wide range of solutions, yielding successes and lessons learned on how to most effectively contain carbon and mitigate climate change.
