David is an energy executive, investor, advisor and scientist with extensive global experience across the energy business, and in industry, academia and government.
He is Chairman of Lawrence Energy Group LLC, serves as Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Salk Institute Harnessing Plants Initiative and is a Trustee on the Army War College Foundation Board. In a career of almost 30 years with Shell, he served as Royal Dutch Shell Executive Vice President Global Exploration, Executive Vice President Investor Relations, and Vice President Planning and Strategy. Lawrence led Shell Wind Energy, Americas LNG/Gas Monetization, US Exploration and Development and Shell Offshore Properties and Capital and was a Director of the Shell United Kingdom Pension Management Board.
David is a past Director of Stone Energy Corporation, Chairman of the External Advisory Board of the Yale Climate and Energy Institute, Commissioner Aspen Institute Commission on the Arctic, Chairman European Association of Geologists and Engineers Advisory Committee, Membership Chairman of the National Ocean Industry Association and University of Wyoming Energy, Law and Policy Fellow.
He began his career as a geology instructor at Yavapai College in Arizona, a field geologist for the US Geological Survey in Wyoming and a research scientist in Shell’s Bellaire Research Center. David received his PhD in Geology and Geophysics from Yale in 1984.
